Counselling offers you a safe space to talk
There are many reasons why people talk to counsellors, sometimes when life is stressful our personal lives impact on our work and vice versa. Relationship breakdowns, ill health, problems at work, too many conflicting demands or facing redundancy are all examples of reasons that bring people to counselling. None of these are things to be ashamed of and by reading this you have taken your first step to making things feel easier.
Our counselling is confidential, however, if somebody is unsafe or at risk of harm we may need to share this information with others; if your employer is paying for your counselling we may need to share with the HR department your name and how many counselling sessions you have had and if you require more. We will have different arrangements with different employers, however, we will not share the content of your sessions or make recommendations to your employer other than if we feel you need more sessions.
The counsellor will help you talk about how you feel and work with you to develop ways to cope and to discover your own solutions to any problems so you can feel more like yourself.
